Team Canada evened its record at 1-1 after defeating Peru 16-0 in three innings at the U18 Men’s Pan American Championship on Tuesday. Canada’s offence scored five runs on one hit in the first inning and exploded for 11 more on nine hits in the second, while holding Peru without a hit over three innings to earn the run rule victory.
Key Moments:
Canada took advantage of three errors and a two-run homerun by Kian Poitras to build a 5-0 lead in the first and put the game out of reach in the second. Nathan Wylie led off with a homerun, and the red and white proceeded to load the bases on singles by Jared Picco and Colton Lecuyer followed by a walk before a hit by pitch to Nathan Labrie forced in a run. Rylan Sutherland and Broden VanTassell drove each hit RBI singles before Bryce Rebertz launched a grand slam to put Canada ahead 13-0. Maverick Turgeon added a two-run triple and scored on a single by Poitras to round out the scoring.
Notes:
- Kian Poitras led Canada at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a homerun, three runs batted in and a walk, while Rylan Sutherland also had two hits.
- Nathan Wylie and Bryce Rebertz each had a homerun, with Turgeon adding a triple.
- Eight different Canadian batters registered a hit, and a total of ten reached the bases.
