Parana, Argentina – The U23 Men’s National Softball Team were looking to bounce back in game two of the Super Round of the 2023 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup after a 3-1 loss to Argentina. After seven innings, Canada lost an offensive battle with Mexico (1-2) 1-0.
Starting in the circle for Canada in game 7 and making his third start of the tournament was Riley Manion (Napanee, Ont.). Manion has pitched 12.2 innings, with a 2-1 record and 1.66 ERA.
In the bottom of the first, Manion had a very efficient inning, with three ground outs to start the game.
Canada was trying to get something started early offensively but nothing seemed to fall their way.
In the bottom of the third inning, Mexico would score the only run of the game off a wild pitch to make it 1-0.
Canada made a pitching change in the bottom of the fourth inning, bringing in Reese Yantzi (Shakespeare, Ont.). Yantzi earned five strikeouts in three innings pitched.
Canada outhit Mexico 4-2 but unfortunately, they could not set the timely hit, resulting in a tough 1-0 loss.
Canada (1-3) will play its third game of the Super Round against Australia at 5:30pm ART on Saturday, April 22.
