Ottawa, Ont. – Softball Canada is pleased to announce that Bryan Brooks (Napanee, Ont.) has been reappointed as Head Coach of the Canadian U18 Men’s National Team program for the 2026/2027 WBSC World Cup cycle, with Jean-Yves Doucet (St-Leonard-d’Aston, Que.) and Don Scott (Stratford, Ont.) joining his staff as Assistant Coaches.
The staff worked together last year and led the Canadian U18 Men’s squad to a bronze medal at the 2025 WBSC Americas Pan American Championship in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. The result qualified Canada for the upcoming 2027 WBSC U18 Men’s Softball World Cup, which will be held in Czechia.
Bryan Brooks (Napanee, Ont.) was selected as a Men’s National Team Pool Coach in 2024 before stepping in as U18 Men’s Head Coach in 2025. After many years coaching at Softball Napanee across multiple age groups, Bryan led Team Ontario to a gold medal at the 2025 Canada Summer Games Men’s Softball competition in St. John’s, NL. He previously served as a guest coach at several Softball Canada U18 and U23 Men’s National Team Identification camps.
Jean-Yves Doucet (St-Leonard-d’Aston, Que.) has been part of the U18 Men’s National Team program since 2014, first serving as a guest coach before joining the staff as an assistant coach in 2016. He helped guide Canada to bronze medal performances at the 2016 and 2023 U18 Men’s World Cups, and a fourth-place finish in 2018. He also served as Head Coach of Team Quebec at five Canada Summer Games (1989, 1993, 2001, 2017 and 2022).
Don Scott (Stratford, Ont.) had his first experience as a coach with the U18 Men’s National Team in 2025 after serving as an assistant coach on Brooks’ Team Ontario Canada Games staff. Don has enjoyed an accomplished playing career, having been part of the Men’s National Team program from 2007 to 2013 including a 2013 WBSC Men’s World Cup appearance. He continues to play at the Master Men’s level and has won three consecutive Canadian Championship gold medal with the Cobourg Force, while also being Head Coach of the 2025 U23 Men’s Canadian Championship gold medallist Rostock Junior Batmen.
Softball Canada and the U18 coaching staff will now turn their attention on the athlete identification and selection process in 2026 to determine the 2027 World Cup roster. The eligible birth years for the 2027 World Cup will be 2009 or later.
