Dallas, Texas – Canada capped off the opening round of the 2024 U18 Women’s Softball World Cup Group C with a commanding 2-0 victory over Australia, thanks to an outstanding performance by Morgan Reimer (Langley, B.C.), who pitched a perfect game.

The early innings saw Canada’s offense applying pressure, consistently making contact, yet finding it difficult to break through Australia’s defense. Despite their efforts, the Canadian batters struggled to find the gaps in the field, leaving the game scoreless through the first four innings.

The breakthrough came in the top of the fifth inning. Chantal Carriere (Brampton, Ont.) showed patience at the plate, earning a leadoff walk to get things started. Kenzie Hess (Surrey, B.C.) followed up with a sharp single to right field, putting runners on first and second with two outs. The momentum shifted when Avery Tucker (Milton, Ga.) stepped up to the plate, delivering a clutch 2-run triple down the left field line, driving in Carriere and Hess to give Canada the crucial 2-0 lead.

On the mound, Morgan Reimer was unstoppable. Reimer completed the game striking out 14 of the 21 batters she faced, throwing 63 strikes out of her 87 pitches.

Box Score: Canada 2, Australia 0

With this victory, Canada finishes the opening round in second place behind Team USA. As the playoffs approach, Canada will face Team USA tomorrow, September 2nd, in a high-stakes matchup with a spot in the 2025 World Cup Finals on the line.
