Softball NL Set to Host 2019 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship
(St. John’s, NL) Softball Newfoundland Labrador (Softball NL) is extremely pleased to announce that the 2019 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship will be held in St. John’s from Aug. 14-18.
Historically, Softball NL were well represented at the Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championships, having participated in 23 of 24 events between 1971 and 1994, during which time St. John’s played host to the event on two occasions (1982, 1988).
Following a lengthy absence from the women’s national tournament (1995-2016), it was in 2017 that Softball NL, under the leadership of President Gary Corbett, made a strong commitment to rebuild the foundation of women’s softball in the province.
The rebuild started quickly, with sights set on attending the 2018 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship in Saskatoon, SK. Under the guidance of Head Coach Andrea Wolf (Wapella, SK), Assistant Coaches Dwayne Connolly (Goulds, NL) and Gary Corbett (Holyrood, NL), Three Cheers Pub Impact became the first Newfoundland and Labrador team in 24-years to attend the Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship.
With 866 females registered at the minor level in 2018, Softball NL believes hosting an event such as the 2019 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship is a great opportunity to encourage young female players to strive to one day be on the field competing and representing province at the same event.
Each year, Softball Canada presents 10 Canadian Championships in various locations across the country. These Championships represent the pinnacle of many athletes' careers, as they compete for the title of National Champion.
Individuals interested in being a part of the Host Committee for the upcoming 2019 Women’s Canadian Fastpitch Championship are encouraged to contact Dave Feener (Softball NL Executive Director) at email@example.com.
