Chengdu, China – The Quick Story:
After finishing undefeated through the preliminary round, the Canadian Women’s National Team lost their semi-final game 6-4 to Chinese Taipei and the bronze medal game 11-1 to Japan to finish fourth at the World Games. The semi-final games were postponed due to inclement weather on Saturday and delayed even further on Sunday as the maintenance crews worked hard to get the fields playable.
Key Moments – Game 1 vs. Chinese Taipei:
After two scoreless innings, Chinese Taipei opened the scoring by taking advantage of an error followed by three consecutive hits and later added an RBI single to take a 4-0 lead. Canada started chipping away at the lead immediately, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third and got within one after a solo homerun by Grace Messmer in the fourth. Back-to-back run-scoring doubles by Chinese Taipei in the top of the seventh added two insurance runs to their lead before Janet Leung led off the bottom of the seventh with a homerun, but Canada could not come back despite their valiant effort.

Key Moments – Bronze medal game vs. Japan:
Coming off an emotional win over Japan two days earlier and a tough loss in the semi-final, Canada faced Japan again in the bronze medal game. The game was scoreless through three innings before Japan erupted by scoring 10 runs on seven hits and four walks off four different Canadian pitchers. After Japan scored one more run in the top half of the fifth, CC Wong led off the bottom of the inning with a homerun but that was the only run Canada could get despite a seven-hit effort.
