Surrey, B.C. – Team Canada battled fiercely in game seven, defeating TC Colorado to secure their seventh consecutive win and advance to the gold medal game at the Canada Cup. 

In the bottom of the third inning, TC Colorado struck first with a solo home run following a double play executed by Kelsey Harshman (Delta, B.C.) and CC Wong (Port Coquitlam, B.C.), making it 1-0. Canada ended the inning with a groundout to Janet Leung (Mississauga, Ont.), setting the stage for a response. Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge, B.C.) delivered by hitting a solo home run to center field, tying the game at 1-1. 

TC Colorado regained the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. With runners on second and third, a single to center field drove in two runs, bringing the score to 3-1. 

Canada quickly answered back in the top of the sixth inning. Franklin and Kianna Jones (Surrey, B.C.) each hit singles, followed by Zoe Hicks’ (Boissevain, Man.) double to left field, which scored Franklin and advanced Jones to third. With the bases loaded after Natalie Wideman (Mississauga, Ont.) walked, and two outs with an 0-2 count, Wong launched a grand slam over the center field wall, securing Canada's final runs and setting the score at 6-3. 

In the circle, Katie Korstrom (Abbotsford, B.C.) started for Canada, pitching 3.1 innings, striking out 2, and allowing 3 hits and 1 run. Nicola Simpson (Seattle, Wash.) took over in the third, ending the inning with a strikeout and allowing 3 hits and 1 run. Brook Melnychuk (Saskatoon, Sask.) pitched the fourth, allowing 2 hits and 1 run. Morgan Rackel (Calgary, Alta.) then closed the game, shutting out TC Colorado in the last six outs to secure the win for Canada. 

Team Canada will now compete in the gold medal game tonight, July 7, at 6:00 pm PDT against the winner of the 1:00 pm game between TC Colorado and Team Mexico.
