Softball Canada Announces Men’s National Team Coaching Changes

Ottawa, ON – Softball Canada is pleased to announce the following coaching staff changes and Pool Coach additions within the Men’s National Teams program.

First, Mark Quinn (Mermaid, P.E.I.) has been named an assistant coach with the Men’s National Team for the 2024-2025 WBSC World Cup cycle. Quinn had been involved with the U18 Men’s National Team program since 2016, most recently leading Canada to a bronze medal performance at the 2023 WBSC U18 Men’s Softball World Cup. He was also an assistant coach with the U23 Men’s National Team program in 2023 and will return in that position for the 2024-2026 U23 Men’s World Cup cycle.

Quinn joins the Men’s National Team coaching staff led by head coach John Stuart (Merritt, B.C.) with Les Howey (Conception Bay South, N.L.) and Jeff Ellsworth (St. Lawrence, P.E.I.) as assistant coaches.

At the U23 Men’s National Team level, head coach Doug Allin (Peachland, B.C.) has decided to step away from his assistant coach position with the Men’s National Team to better focus his time and energy on the U23 Men’s program. Quinn will return as an assistant coach on Allin’s staff, with Dan Whiteford (Duncan, B.C.) joining them as an assistant coach. Whiteford has extensive experience as a player and coach, most recently as head coach of Team BC’s Men’s Softball Canada Summer Games program and with the Sooke Loggers at the Men’s level.

The Canadian U23 Men’s National Team is expected to compete in a Pan American Championship later this year, which will serve as a qualifier for the 2026 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup.

In addition, Softball Canada has added Bryan Brooks (Napanee, Ont.), Doug Charlton (Strathroy, Ont.), Jean-Yves Doucet (Saint-Léonard-d’Aston, Que.) and Garth Perrin (Stewiacke, N.S.) as Pool Coaches with the Men’s National Team program. The role of the Pool Coaches will be to support the Men’s National Team coaching staff by stepping in to cover for assistant coaches if they are unable to attend any camps/competitions, and to help with scouting, identification camps, selection camps and training camps as required for any of the three Men’s National Teams.
