Consider it extra innings.

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Softball Association will be hosting not one, but two, significant tournaments during the next two seasons.

After being awarded the Ontario Amateur Softball Association’s (OASA) boys peewee A and B championship tournaments in November, the organization learned Jan. 11 it also will to host Softball Canada’s under-14 boys national fast-pitch championships in 2018.

The unique doubleheader will keep Stouffville’s softball community on its toes. The OASA event is July 29 to 30.

“I have been with this same group of players for a couple of years now and have seen all the hard work that they have put in at practice and in games, and I wanted to put in more work myself to reward them,” said Ed Matthews, head coach for the peewee-aged Stouffville Storm team which will be the host team for both events. “It is an honour to get to play in a national championship, but to host and bring Canada to Stouffville will be the most rewarding experience of my life within sport.”

The Stouffville team receives automatic entry into both tournaments, said Matthews.

The organizing committee for both events is seeking sponsors and volunteers to help conduct the tournaments.
