Ottawa, Ont. - Softball Canada and the Men’s National Team coaching staff are pleased to announce the Team Canada roster set to compete at the 2024 WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Group Stage B from July 10 to 14 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.
"We are all excited and ready to go for WBSC World Cup Group Stage.” stated Men’s National Team Head Coach John Stuart. “Although some of our veterans are unavailable for this event, it is a great opportunity for our coaching staff to see some players wearing the maple leaf and representing Canada for the first time. Our goal remains the same as always, to compete for the top spot on the final day."
In May 2024, Softball Canada announced eleven (11) core athletes for the Men’s National Team and has since added five (5) athletes from the athlete pool to complete the roster. The new additions are Dallas Kipfer (Kitchener, Ont.), Jeff Lyons (Glencoe, Ont.), Mason McKay (Tavistock, Ont.), Steven Normand (Calgary, Alta.), and Tyler Randerson (New Hamburg, Ont.).
Currently ranked No. 3 in the WBSC World Rankings, Canada aims to build on their success after winning a silver medal at the XVII Men’s Softball World Cup in 2022.
The WBSC World Cup Group B competition features No. 1 Argentina, No. 3 Canada, No. 10 New Zealand, No. 11 Singapore, No. 16 Israel, and No. 24 Hong Kong, China.
The Dominican Republic (No. 14) and Australia (No. 2) have already secured their spots in the XVIII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup Finals following the conclusion of Group A in Hermosillo, Mexico last month, leaving six more spots up for grabs. The top two teams from each group stage, along with two wild cards, will qualify for the 2025 WBSC World Cup Finals, to be held from July 8 to 13 in Prince Albert, Sask.
Group C will be played September 17-21 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
