Monteria, Colombia - The Quick Story:
Team Canada came out firing in Game 1 of the XI Pan American Women’s Championship, delivering a 14–0 win over Chile. Canada’s offense racked up 11 hits, including six doubles, while the pitching staff combined for a no-hitter with seven strikeouts over four innings of play.
Key Moment:
A leadoff hit from Larissa Franklin ignited a scoring surge in the bottom of the second, followed by three consecutive doubles from Erika Polidori, Grace Messmer (whose ground-rule double got lodged at the top of the left-center field fence), and Natalie Wideman. Canada would go on to score eight runs in the inning.
Notes:
- Emma Entzminger went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored three runs.
- Canada tallied six extra-base hits - doubles by Entzminger, CC Wong, Kianna Jones, Franklin, Polidori, Messmer, and Wideman.
- Morgan Reimer earned the start, throwing 2.0 innings with four strikeouts.
- Annabel Teperson closed out the final two innings, striking out three and preserving the no-hitter.
