The Paris 2024 Olympic Organizing Committee has recommended breakdancing, surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing for inclusion on the programme of the 2024 Olympic Games. Although their decision not to include baseball and softball is disappointing, Softball Canada fully intends to do everything in its power to support the WBSC’s efforts in getting softball reinstated in 2028.
The recommended sports will be considered by the IOC Executive Board at their upcoming meeting in March with provisional approval expected in June before the additional sports are officially confirmed in December 2020.
With the Olympic Dreams of young female softball athletes worldwide coming to fruition in 2020, we cannot allow one setback to prevent them from being realized for our young female athletes in the future. With millions of athletes in over 120 countries around the world competing in our sport, softball continues to grow. Softball Canada is determined to work diligently to develop and improve softball programs, both at the national and international level.
We will continue to make our sport faster, more exciting and even more appealing to viewers than it is today. The world deserves to see the tremendous talent and skill it takes to play our sport at the highest level and we will not let them down. We will be back in 2028!
