Parana, Argentina – The Canadian U23 Men’s National Softball Team got another key win at the 2023 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup after beating Israel (1-3) 7-0 in five innings.

Jordan Hudson (Saskatoon, Sask.), got the start today in the circle for Team Canada, marking his second start and third appearance of the tournament.

Team Canada picked up right where they left off last night with their bats’ swinging. Isaac Lefebvre (St. -Leonard-d’Aston), got the first hit of the game in the bottom of the first inning when he hit a single up the middle. James Shirley (Delisle, Sask.), tripled, scoring Lefebvre to make it 1-0. Shirley would then make it 2-0 on a fielding error.

“It was a good game, we came out pretty strong,” said Shirley, who had one RBI and one run at three at bats. “It felt good to get that big hit off the bat, to get it going that inning, it felt really good.”

Canada continued to bring the heat in the first inning when Jordan Pomeroy (Placentia, N.L.), scored on a sacrifice fly by Thomas Baker (Kitchener, Ont.), to make it 3-0. Mark Stack (Petty Harbour, N.L.), was hit hard by a pitch, but would be alright and would eventually score off a Mason McKay (Tavistock, Ont.), triple to make it 4-0.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brant Wiebe (Delisle, Sask.), hit a double to right centre, scoring Mason McKay who was hit by a pitch, 5-0 Canada.

Canada continued the scoring in the bottom of the fifth inning when Baker doubled down the left field line, scoring Mitch McKay (Tavistock, Ont.). Dallas Kipfer (Breslau, Ont.) hit a single up the middle, scoring baker to make it 7-0.

“It was good to get a win. We did our job today and hopefully we can keep the ball rolling,” said Hudson, who earned the win today with six strikeouts in five innings pitched. “We’re clicking now so hopefully we get the opportunity to keep things going.”

The game would end after five innings and Canada would earn its second consecutive win of the tournament.

Canada (3-2) will wait to see what the outcome is between Japan and New Zealand. Canada will need Japan to beat New Zealand to advance to the Super Round.
