Monteria, Colombia – The Canadian U18 Women’s National Team capped off an impressive showing in the Super Round at the 2024 Pan American Championship, going undefeated and clinching a spot in the gold medal game with a decisive 5-1 victory over Colombia in their final game.

Colombia struck first, scoring a run in the top of the second inning off an overthrow while attempting to catch a runner stealing third base. However, Canada swiftly responded as Alexia Chevrier (Saint-Lazare, Que.) scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.

In the bottom of the third inning, Canada surged ahead, tallying three more runs. Tegan Harnett (Maple Ridge, B.C.) and Cece Brown (Maple Ridge, B.C.) hit back-to-back doubles, with Harnett crossing the plate. Jana Want’s (Stoney Creek, Ont.) groundball advanced Brown to third, followed by a deep fly ball to left field by Morgan Reimer (Langley, B.C.) for a sacrifice fly. Chevrier’s single to left field drove in another run, extending Canada’s lead to 4-1.

Canada added their final run in the sixth inning. Katherine Thiessen (Lloydminster, Sask.) started the rally with a single and advanced to third on an overthrow by the second baseman. Rayelle Cooley (Oxbow, Sask.) reached first on an error, scoring Thiessen and solidifying Canada’s victory.

On defense, Rylee Ruppel (Maple Ridge, B.C.) started the game in the circle, pitching four complete innings and allowing only one hit, one walk, one run, while striking out six batters. Emma Frisky (Martensville, Sask) came in relief, pitching the remaining three innings, allowing two hits, one walk, and striking out seven batters.
