Ottawa, Ont. – Softball Canada congratulates Jeff Ellsworth (St. Lawrence, P.E.I.) and Steve Mullaley (Freshwater, N.L.) on their outstanding international softball careers after they each made the decision to retire from international competition last week. Ellsworth and Mullaley both represented Team Canada for the first time at the 2006 WBSC Americas Softball Qualifier and became key contributors at the last several WBSC Men’s Softball World Championships.
“We would like to congratulate Jeff Ellsworth and Steve Mullaley on their fantastic international softball careers” stated Kevin Quinn, President of Softball Canada. “They were both key members of our gold medal teams at the 2015 WBSC World Championship and the 2015 Pan American Games. Their presence will definitely be missed by our Men’s National Team program.”
Ellsworth competed in a total of four WBSC World Championships, winning the gold medal in 2015, bronze medals in 2009 and 2019 and a fifth-place finish in 2013. He also won gold at the 2015 Pan American Games and competed in three WBSC Americas Qualifier with a gold medal in 2012 and bronze medals in 2006 and 2014. One of the game’s best hitters, Ellsworth retired from international competition following the 2015 season to concentrate on his coaching career but came out of retirement to compete at his last WBSC World Championship in 2019. He is currently in his third cycle as Head Coach of the Canadian Junior Men’s National Team program.
