Monteria, Colombia - The Quick Story:
Team Canada lost its opening game by a narrow 2-1 score to the defending World Champions from Venezuela to open its Men’s Pan American Championship schedule on Saturday.
Key Moments:
Canada took an early lead when Jordan Pomeroy led off the bottom of the first inning with a homerun over the right field fence. The only two runs from Venezuela came in the top of the third, with both crossing the plate on passed balls. Canada had a good opportunity to score in the bottom of the third but was called out on a video review lead off to negate a first and third situation with one out.
Notes:
- Venezuela outhit Canada 4-3 in the game, with Canada’s hits being the homerun by Pomeroy, a double by Quinten Bruce and a single by Mitch McKay.
- Devon McCullough got the start for Canada, allowing two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts in five plus innings.
- Tyler Randerson kept Venezuela off the basepaths and struck out four batters in two innings of relief.
