Canada Drops Close Battle to Mexico in First Super Round Game

Montería, Colombia - The Quick Story:   

Team Canada kicked off Super Round action at the XI Pan American Women’s Softball Championship with a hard-fought 3–1 loss to Mexico. Team Mexico’s offence came out strong, tallying two runs in the first inning on four consecutive hits and adding a solo home run in the second. Canada responded with a run in the third but couldn’t complete the comeback. 

Key Moment:   

Canada’s lone run came in the bottom of the third inning, when Emma Entzminger ripped a triple to right field and was brought home by an RBI single from Erika Polidori. In the circle, Morgan Reimer entered in relief and was dominant, holding Mexico scoreless over the final 5.2 innings and racking up seven strikeouts. 

Notes:   

  • Erika Polidori went 2-for-3 at the plate with 1 RBI. 
  • Morgan Rackel took the start in the circle pitching 1.1 innings, striking out 1 and allowing 3 runs off 5 hits. 
  • Morgan Reimer came in relief pitching the remaining 5.2 innings, shutting out Mexico with 7 strikeouts.

Team Canada returns to the field today (July 1) for Game 2 of the Super Round against El Salvador at 3:00 pm COT / 4:00 pm EDT.
