Monteria, Colombia – Canada started off strong with two wins under their belt to kick off the Super Round at the 2024 Pan American Championship. The red and white secured a crucial 3-1 win against Mexico followed by a 10-0 shutout against Peru in four innings.
Canada began the day facing Mexico, the top finisher in Group A heading into the Super Round. In the bottom of the third inning, Mexico took an early lead with one run scored off back-to-back doubles.
However, Canada answered back in the fifth with CeCe Brown’s (Maple Ridge, B.C.) single to right field followed by Taitumn Reynen (Langford, B.C.) driving Brown in on a triple to tie the game. In a pivotal moment, Canada’s center fielder, Madeline Hallman (St. George, Ont.), made a crucial play by throwing out a runner at home plate to prevent Mexico from taking the lead and ending the inning.
Canada capitalized on their momentum, scoring two more runs in the seventh. Jana Want (Stoney Creek, Ont.) scored on a passed ball, followed by Brown driving in Rayelle Cooley (Oxbow, Sask.) on a double to secure the win.
Pitchers Morgan Reimer (Langley, B.C.) and Danika Nell (Boissevain, Man.) delivered stellar performances in the circle for Canada. Reimer pitched five complete innings, recording five strikeouts, allowing seven hits, and one run. Nell entered in relief, pitching the final two innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out two batters.

Canada then faced Peru in a 10-0 shutout. Nell continued her impressive performance in the circle, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out eight of the fourteen Peruvian batters.
Canada’s offense capitalized on opportunities, starting with Caitlin Colley (Stouffville, Ont.) hitting a double to center field in the first inning to drive in Tegan Harnett (Maple Ridge, B.C.), putting Canada on the scoreboard. In a remarkable second inning, Canada exploded with a six-run surge, highlighted by an RBI single by Reynen, Hallman’s two-run triple, a sacrifice fly by Colley, Want’s solo homerun, and Nell’s single scoring Brown.
In the third, Cooley scored on a passed ball, extending Canada’s lead to 8-0 heading into the fourth. In the final inning, Harnett would single to left field driving in Chevrier, followed by Hallman’s single up the middle, scoring Cooley.
