Blue Convention 2025 - Sessions
More Than a Hammer - Using Routine and Mechanics as Tools To Build Toward Excellence
Like any mechanic or craftsperson, an umpire has a variety of tools that can be used on the diamond. But, how do we ensure that our tools are always ready and that we have the right tool for every situation? How do we continue to add new tools to our repertoire? Join us for a discussion on how routine can be key to refining the mechanics that will allow you to face every situation on the diamond, from the ordinary to the unexpected. Instructors: Emma Jerome-Smith, Sarah-Eve Jacob & David Pritchard

The Convention Race: BINGO and Rule Hunt Showdown
The first part of the event is an exciting journey to get to know your fellow umpires through a fun, BINGO-style game. As you race through this adventure, you'll seek out individuals who have accomplished specific tasks and mark off the corresponding squares on your card. But that's just the beginning! To complete your card, you’ll need to participate in the sessions of the Blue Convention. Pay close attention during the classes—when a key phrase or action is mentioned, fill in the relevant square. Finish your card, and you’ll be eligible for some great prizes!
The second part of the race will put your rule knowledge to the test. During breaks, the scavenger hunt begins! Keep an eye out for hidden eggs containing rule-related questions. Answer them correctly, and you'll be one step closer to victory. Demonstrate your expertise, fill in your card, and claim your prize! Lead Instructor: Susan Stafford
