2026 WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Group Stage - Game 3

18 June 2026 Gilles LeBlanc

Prague, Czechia — Team Canada improved to a perfect 3–0 record at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup Group Stage with a commanding 7–0 victory over Cuba on Thursday at Svoboda Ballpark, in Prague Czechia.

Canada combined a balanced offensive attack with dominant pitching, tallying 14 hits while limiting Cuba to just five in a run-rule-shortened, five-inning contest.

Early Breakthrough Sets the Tone

Canada opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Emma Entzminger tripled down the right field line and came around to score on a defensive miscue, giving Canada a 1–0 lead.

The early advantage held through the second inning, as Cuba threatened at times but was unable to capitalize against Canadian starter Sara Groenewegen.

Five-Run Third Breaks It Open

Canada took control of the game in the third inning with a decisive five-run outburst. Grace Messmer and Janet Leung ignited the rally with back-to-back singles before Callum Maskill delivered a two-run double to extend the lead.

Moments later, Logan Forman launched a two-run home run to deep left field, putting Canada firmly in command. Entzminger followed with her second extra-base hit of the game, a triple, and later scored on an RBI single from Kelsey Harshman to cap the inning.

The offensive surge stretched Canada’s lead to 6–0 and proved more than enough support for the pitching staff.

Adding Insurance Late

Canada added its final run in the fifth inning when Entzminger singled and later came around to score on an RBI single from Erika Polidori, sealing the 7–0 result.

Pitching and Defence Shine

Groenewegen earned the win with three scoreless innings, allowing four hits while keeping Cuba off the scoreboard.

Morgan Rackel closed out the game with two dominant innings, striking out five and surrendering just one hit to secure the shutout.

Defensively, Canada turned a key double play and played exceptionally well behind the pitching staff, helping prevent Cuba from mounting any sustained offence.
