Sincelejo, Colombia – The Quick Story:
The Canadian U23 Men’s National Team got the bats going and got back into the win column with a 20-0 win over Singapore in three innings on the run rule. The win sets up a winner advances to the Super Round scenario between Canada and Venezuela in their matchup Wednesday night.
Key Moments:
Canada wasted no time getting on the board, batting around the order and scoring five runs in the top of the first, highlighted by an RBI single by Alex McGillivrary and a run-scoring triple by Blake Brubacher. The following inning, the red and white added eight runs to its lead by taking advantage of errors, wild pitches and illegal pitches along with an RBI double by Aidan Yarde and RBI singles by McGillivray and Adrian Green. Yarde, Nic McGrayne and Brody Fraser each added two-run singles in the third.
Notes:
- Canada’s bats broke loose with 20 runs on 13 hits.
- Alex McGillivray led the charge going 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs batted in, Aidan Yarde went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and Adrian Green was 2-for-3 with one run batted in.
- Six other Canadian hitters contributed with a hit apiece: Nick White, Max Major, Nic McGrayne, Connor Brooks, Brody Fraser and Blake Brubacher.
- Brad Barker earned the win in the circle, allowing one hit and striking out three batters in two innings. Dale Schweyer allowed a hit and struck out two in one inning of relief.
Team Canada (2-2) will end the preliminary round with a game against Venezuela (2-2) at 7:00pm COT (8:00pm EDT) on Wednesday. The winner of that game will finish third in Group B and advance in the Super Round.
Australia (4-0) has secured first place in Group B with Mexico (3-1) locked into the second spot. In Group A, Japan, New Zealand and Czechia all sit at 3-1, with the order of the teams to be determined after Wednesday’s results and a key matchup between New Zealand and Czechia.
