Team Canada earned their first victory at the U18 WBSC Women’s World Cup with a thrilling 4-3 win over Puerto Rico. A mix of power at the plate and steady pitching carried the Canadians to the narrow victory, giving the young squad a well-deserved boost in pool play.
Key Moments
Raphaelle Bouchard delivered the swing of the game, blasting a three-run home run to pace the Canadian offence. She finished with five total bases and three RBIs, powering Canada to its best offensive outing of the tournament so far. Abigail Findlay added an RBI of her own, while Serena D’Amico and Isabella Gill chipped in with doubles to keep the pressure on Puerto Rico’s defence. Avery Tucker and Findlay also contributed with solid at-bats, while Tegan Harnett reached base after being hit by a pitch to extend the lineup.
In the circle, Canada got strong outings from Deschanel Donovan and Emma Frisky. Donovan set the tone with nearly five innings of work, striking out batters and battling through Puerto Rico’s lineup with 74 pitches, before Frisky came in to close it out, showing composure under pressure.
