It was a challenging day for Team Canada at the U18 WBSC Women’s World Cup as they faced two powerhouse programs in China and the United States, dropping a 10-0 decision in the opener before falling 11-1 to the Americans in the nightcap. Despite the results, the Canadian squad continued to show flashes of promise with key extra-base hits, strong at-bats, and valuable experience gained against elite competition.

China’s pitching staff was tough to crack, but Raphaelle Bouchard delivered Canada’s biggest swing of the game with a double, finishing with two total bases. Avery Hess worked a walk to set the table, while Avery Tucker reached after being hit by a pitch. Behind the plate, Isabella Gill showed grit in managing a busy outing.
On the mound, Canada spread the workload between Deschanel Donovan, Emma Frisky, and Rylee Ruppel, who combined for 90 pitches and kept battling against China’s disciplined hitters.

The Canadian pitching staff showed its depth, using four pitchers— Rylee Ruppel, Abigail Findlay, Thiessen, and Donovan—while facing one of the most potent lineups in the world.
