La Pampa, Argentina - The Quick Story:

Team Canada picked up their first win at the 2025 WBSC Americas U23 Men’s Pan American Championship, defeating Guatemala 5-4. A three-run third inning proved to be the difference, as Canada held off a late push from Guatemala to even their record at 1-1 in the preliminary round. They’ll look to carry that momentum into tomorrow’s matchup against Peru.

Key Moment:
After tying the game in the second, Canada’s offense came alive in the third to take control. Connor Brooks led off with a double, Matt Weiler followed with a walk, and Max Major drove both runners in with a triple to right-center field. Alex McGillivray then added an RBI single, giving Canada a 5-2 lead. Guatemala answered back in the sixth with two runs to cut the deficit to 5-4, but Team Canada held strong, shutting them down in the seventh to secure the win.

Notes:

  • Max Major led the way offensively with a two-run triple in the third, finishing 1-for-2 while scoring two runs.
  • Nick White went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Alex McGillivray went 1-for-3 with an RBI single.
