Introduction to Learn to Play
For over 15 years, the Learn to Play Program has continued to be an innovative way of introducing the sport of softball to children.
The program was developed to foster the involvement of all players, including children with high and low skill levels and has been revised to follow Softball Canada’s Long-Term Player Development model by incorporating Fundamental Movement Skills activities, tried and true softball activities and developmentally appropriate lead-up games that are patterned after informal playground games. The program is structured to ensure that kids experience fun and lots of physical activity all while learning fundamental softball skills.
Learn to Play is meant to be a gradual introduction to non-stressful competition. Participants will go home at the end of the session happy and tired, while improving their fitness level. Children will experience excitement, enjoyment and success.
The Learn to Play Program provides 5-10-year old’s with maximum opportunity to practice the progressions necessary to successfully take part in the (adult) game of softball with a reasonable amount of skill once it’s developmentally appropriate.
