Coaching Standards

NCCP Coaches are described as follows:

In Training – when they have completed some of the required training for a context 
Trained – when they have completed all required training for a context;
Certified – when they have completed all evaluation requirements for a context.

Softball Coaching Standards in Canada:

Canada Summer Games: All Coaches must be Competition - Development Certified

Canadian Championships:         

  • 2019      - Head Coach must be Competition - Introduction Certified

                              - Assistant Coaches must be Competition - Introduction Trained

  • 2020      - U19, U23, Men’s, Women’s:  All Coaches must be Competition - Introduction Certified (All other categories remain Head Coach Competition - Introduction Certified and Assistant Coaches Competition - Introduction Trained)

Provincials/Westerns/Easterns: This is governed by the individual Provinces/Territories, not Softball Canada. Please contact your Provincial or Territorial Softball Association for more information.

*Starting in 2020 the Foundations of Coaching Softball (FOCS) - Part 1 E-Learning Module will be the minimum training that coaches require at all levels of play. Please check for any additional coaching requirements (MED, Respect In Sport, Making Headway, etc) with your individual Province/Territory.
