The 2019 summer marked the first opportunity for Morgan Rackel to don the maple leaf and compete as part of the Women’s National Team. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Rackel completed her senior year at Austin Peay State University in 2019, where she earned her degree in Chemistry. At the college level, she was a threat in the circle as well as at the plate, she pitched and played outfield all four years. A member of the Calgary Kaizen organization throughout her minor softball days, she also represented Team Alberta at the 2017 Canada Summer Games and led them to a Silver medal performance.
Rackel started her collegiate career at Weatherford College, where she played in 53 games and made 24 starts in the circle with a record of 28-6 with 4 shutouts in 213.0 innings of work while recording 124 strikeouts and a 1.97 ERA. As a batter with the Coyotes, she hit .414 with a .438 on base percentage, 21 doubles, 2 triples and 9 home runs. Rackel transferred to Austin Peay State University prior to her junior year, and played two full seasons with the Governors. As a pitcher, she finished her career with the Govs having appeared in 72 games over two seasons and a record of 43-16 in 384.0 innings of work and an ERA of 1.68 and 446 strikeouts. At the plate, she batted .288 with a .356 OBP in 333 at bats, 18 doubles, 2 triples and 16 home runs.
With the Women's National Team, Rackel was a member of the 2019 Pan American Games roster and pitched two scoreless innings as Canada won the Silver medal. She also played for the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois in the National Pro Faspitch (NPF) League in 2019, going 2-5 with 3 saves and striking out 24 batters in 43.1 innings pitched.

If you could spend an hour with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be? Bill Nye the Science Guy. As someone born in the 90’s, I grew up on his show. Now I am a chemistry major and huge science nerd, I would love to sit and chat with him about anything and everything science.
