Janet Leung is a native of Mississauga, Ontario and grew up playing for various teams in the GTA, including the Mississauga North Tigers, Oakville Angels, Scarborough Rays and Brantford Bobcats. She attended Brown University and completed her degree in Business Entrepreneurship while competing for the Bears all four seasons. She started all 151 games for the Bears during her time with the team, and finished her career third all-time at Brown in at bats (493) and fifth in doubles (35). In her career at Brown, she posted a .304 batting average, 150 hits, 35 doubles, 79 runs, and 52 RBIs.

Leung’s first appearance for Team Canada was in 2013 when she competed as part of the Junior Women’s National Team at the 2013 WBSC Junior Women’s World Championship in Brampton, Ontario where she was part of the squad that finished fifth. She took part in Team Canada selection camps in 2014 and 2015 before making her debut with the Senior National Team in 2016 at the Japan Cup. That summer, she played for the National Team at the annual Canada Cup tournament in Surrey, British Columbia. She was also part of the National team for the 2018 WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship in Chiba, Japan where she helped Canada secure a bronze medal. In 2019, she represented Canada at the Pan American Games and earned a Silver medal, and also suited up at the 2019 WBSC Americas Qualifier, notching 6 hits and driving in 6 runs while batting .500 as Canada earned a spot for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

She played her first season of professional softball with the Canadian Wild of Southern Illinois of the National Pro Faspitch (NPF) League in 2019, registering 12 hits in 27 games played.

What’s your pre-game ritual? Pre-game hacky with the hacky crew!
What’s your favourite place that softball has taken you? Japan for the World Championship in 2018. The people there were so nice and the softball environment there was amazing to play in and obviously I loved the food there.
What are your future aspirations? I want to get into the marketing industry, ideally working for a sports company so I can combine my two passions.
If you could spend an hour with anyone in the world, living or dead, who would it be? Both of my grandfathers. I never had a chance to get to know them, and would love to have the chance to do that.
