SOFTBALL CANADA COORDINATOR, COMMUNICATIONS AND PROGRAMS
Softball Canada is a non-profit member-based National Sport Organization that provides a range of opportunities for softball athletes, coaches, officials, and Provincial/Territorial Softball Associations through the development, delivery and promotion of softball programs and services at the National and International level.
Position Details: Full-Time, 1-year contract (March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026) Opportunity for a permanent position may be available.

Job Summary:
Softball Canada is seeking an enthusiastic and creative individual to join our team as the Coordinator, Communications and Programs. Based in our Ottawa office, the successful candidate will work closely under the supervision of the Manager, Communications and Programs. This role focuses on supporting the delivery and execution of communications initiatives and national programs aimed at promoting the sport of softball and encouraging its growth across Canada.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications
- Assist in the development and implementation of Softball Canada’s communications strategies.
- Execute the monthly communications schedule and work plan.
- Research and apply communication trends to enhance strategy and outputs.
- Oversee content updates and general maintenance of the company website.
- Development of content creation for Softball Canada’s social media platforms, including writing, editing, and scheduling posts in both English and French.
- Development of media relations efforts, including media releases, National Team game recaps and assisting in managing relationships with media contacts.
- Assist in database management and ensure content accuracy for communication outlets.
- Coordinate the translation of communication materials to meet Softball Canada’s bilingual standards.
Program Delivery
- Support the organization and delivery of Softball Canada’s national programs, including grassroots development initiatives.
- Serve as a point of contact for Provincial/Territorial staff, volunteer committees, and other stakeholders to ensure program alignment and effective communication.
- Assist in the planning and execution of workshops, events, and promotional activities related to program delivery.
Collaboration
- Work closely with the Manager, Communications and Programs to align communication strategies with program objectives.
- Act as a liaison between the Board of Directors, Provincial/Territorial associations, and Softball Canada staff.
Working in a team environment, this position will be part of a small and highly motivated team of professional staff and committed volunteers.
Qualifications:
Essential Experience
- Post-secondary degree in communications, marketing, business administration, journalism, sport management, or related fields.
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience in communications, marketing, program development, or business administration.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and Adobe products (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere) or other photo/video editing software.
- Experience in graphic design, photo/video editing, communications, or program development and promotion.
- Demonstrates strong leadership skills and a creative, self-starting approach to tasks.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required.
Desired Experience
- Bilingualism is an asset, including familiarity with translation software.
- Experience working in amateur sports, non-profit organizations, or delivering community programs serving diverse members.
- Proficiency in WordPress for content management and website improvements.
- Experience in event management and promotional activities.
