FOUNDATIONS OF COACHING SOFTBALL

WHAT IS IT?

Foundations of Coaching Softball (FOCS) is Softball Canada’s first online National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) modules developed to introduce new and experienced coaches to the foundational skills of coaching and softball-specific coaching concepts, such as: developing a coaching philosophy, Long-Term Player Development (LTPD), working with players and their parents, the coaching process, and player safety. The Foundations of Coaching Softball modules will also introduce coaches to the NCCP so that coaches understand the various coach training and certification pathways available to them to become the best coach possible for their players. After successful completion of these modules, they will remain an excellent informational resource coaches can revisit any time they wish for a refresher.

HOW CAN I ACCESS IT?

To participate in one of the Softball Canada eLearning modules, visit The Locker by clicking here! You will need your NCCP number and your password to log in to The Locker. If you have taken an NCCP clinic or workshop in any sport, you will already have an NCCP number. You should only ever have one NCCP number!!  Use the “lookup my NCCP#” or “Forgot password” functions on the login page to retrieve this information. If you have never taken an NCCP clinic or workshop, use the “Don’t have an NCCP #? Create one now” function on the login page to get one after providing the required information.

Once you are logged in to the Locker, your NCCP dashboard will appear. Select the eLearning tab. Then use the pull-down menu to select “Softball” (the default is showing “Multi-Sport”) and under the “Available” menu on the left hand side, you will see all the Softball eLearning modules available to complete.

HOW IT WORKS

Softball Canada’s eLearning:

  • will be hosted on The Locker where learners can register and pay for the modules.
  • is asynchronous (learners complete the module at their own pace and can access it at a time that is convenient for them).
  • allows learners:
    • to stop at any point and return to pick up where they left off.
    • to complete the sections in any order, but they must complete the pages within a section in order.
  • requires learners to:
    • attempt each question and activity before being able to progress. The module is designed to teach through discovery. If the learner doesn’t know an answer, they must give it their best attempt. The intent of the module is to help them further their knowledge, not to evaluate what they do or do not know.
      • For multiple-choice and multi-choice multi-answer questions, learners get two attempts at each question before being given the correct answer and being allowed to move on, unless stated otherwise.
    • complete all activities and visit all pages before completion, or accessing the Knowledge Check in Part 2.
      • The Knowledge Check is a series of 5 questions randomly taken from the question bank.
      • Learners can retake the Knowledge Check as many times as required to pass.
      • Learners must pass the Knowledge Check with a minimum score of 80%.
  • will give learners:
    • access to the modules and the valuable resources.
    • credit in The Locker within 24 hours of completion.
      • Part 1 - Community Sport-Ongoing Participation pathway.
      • Part 2 - Competition-Introduction pathway.
    • continued access to resources after completion.
    • 5 PD points per module for Certified Coaches.

Access this essential resource today! eLearning modules are available in The Locker for $10.00 - Part 1 and $15.00 - Part 2.  (Please note you must complete Part 1 before accessing Part 2)
