Ottawa, Ont. - Softball Canada is pleased to announce the list of forty (40) athletes who have been named to the 2018 Women’s National Team Athlete Pool. The coaching staff will select up to thirty (30) athletes from the Athlete Pool to attend a Women’s National Team Selection Camp in January, 2018.

The Women’s National Team competed in a series of events in 2017, including a pair of bronze medal performances at the US World Cup of Softball XII and the IX Pan American Women’s Softball Championship. The team also competed at the Canada Cup and Japan Cup.

“Year one of the quadrennial leading up to the Olympic Games provided us a lot of valuable information” stated Mark Smith, Head Coach of the Women’s National Team and Softball Canada’s High Performance Director. “The next step is to identify the athletes who are committed to doing what it will take to win in 2018 and beyond and the January Selection Camp will provide them with that opportunity.”

The marquee event of the 2018 season will be the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship that will be held in Chiba, Japan in August, with Team Canada competing in other events leading up to the tournament including the Canada Cup from July 17-23 in Surrey, B.C.
