The Canadian U23 Men’s National Team defeated South Africa 11-1 in four innings on the run-ahead rule at the 2026 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup on Friday.
Key Moments:
Coming off a tough loss to Argentina yesterday, Canada got on the board quickly when Nick White hit a two-run homerun followed by a solo blast by Aidan Yarde in the bottom of the first inning. After South Africa scored one run in the top of the third, the red and white added two runs on errors and a third on a single by Nic McGrayne to build a 6-1 lead. In the fourth, Adrian Green hit a two-run homerun to center before Canada added another run on an error, and Alex McGillivray hit a two-run inside-the-park homerun to end the game.
Notes:
- Canada’s bats broke loose with four homeruns by White, Yarde, Green and McGilivray, and several other hard hits to pressure the South African defence.
- McGrayne and Danny Scott each singled in the win.
- Dale Schweyer earned the four-inning win, allowing one run on two hits with six strikeouts.
Canada will conclude the placement round and its tournament against the host team from Colombia at 9:00pm COT (10:00pm EDT) Saturday night.
