The Canadian U23 Men’s National Team dropped a 5-0 game to Australia in its second game of the 2026 WBSC U23 Men’s Softball World Cup on Sunday. The game was scoreless after three innings before Australia scored two runs in the fourth and added three in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
 
Key Moments:
 
Canada’s Nic Neid and Australia’s Jack Besgrove went to work in the pitcher’s circle over the first three innings, with each pitcher allowing only one hit. Australia got on the board with a solo homerun with two outs in the top of the fourth, and after a hit by pitch, the next batter tripled to add a second run. The following inning, the leadoff batter reached on an error and scored on a single, followed by another run scoring single and an RBI double. Canada got a runner on base in each of the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but wasn’t able to score.
 
Notes:

  • Max Major hit a single in the bottom of the first inning and added a walk.
  • Adrian Green dropped a bunt single in the fifth.
  • Nic McGrayne hit a pinch hit single up the middle in the seventh.
  • Nic Neid took the loss, allowing two runs on only three hits with seven strikeouts over four innings.
  • Dale Schweyer allowed three unearned runs on three hits, while Bradley Barker allowed only one hit over two innings and a third with five strikeouts.
