Monteria, Colombia - The Quick Story: 

Team Canada had an emotional day on Friday, losing their first game 5-1 to the Dominican Republic to end their gold medal hopes before bouncing back with an outstanding 1-0 win over first-place Argentina to finish fourth in the Super Round standings and set up a bronze medal matchup with Venezuela on Saturday. With a guaranteed top five finish, Canada has qualified for the 2028 WBSC Men’s World Cup Group Stage, as well as the 2027 Pan American Games if Men’s Softball is added to the programme.

Key Moments – Game 1 vs. Dominican Republic:   

The Dominican Republic opened the scoring early on a two-out RBI infield single in the top of the first and added another run in the third before Canada got on the board when Jordan Pomeroy doubled and scored on a double by Nick White. The Dominican Republic broke the game open with a base clearing double in the fifth and held Canada’s offence quiet.

Notes:   

  • Pomeroy and White each doubled, with Mitch McKay and Derek Hyde each adding a single for Canada’s four hits.
  • Devon McCullough took the loss in the circle, allowing three earned runs on four hits and he struck out five batters.
  • Jordan Hudson pitched two innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit ands triking out one

Key Moments – Game 2 vs. Argentina:

Needing a win to advance to the bronze medal game, Canada came up with a great start as Mitch McKay drew a two-out walk and immediately scored from first on a double to the left field corner by Quinten Bruce in the top of the first. The pitching took over from there, as Tyler Randerson held Argentina to one hit over the first two innings before Devon McCullough followed with five stellar innings of relief without allowing a hit to register the win, striking out five batters.

Notes:   
  • It was a quite game in the hit column, as Canada registered two hits against one for Argentina.
  • Quinten Bruce doubled in the only run of the game, while Justin Laskowski added a single in the seventh.
  • Each team also drew four walks in the game.

Canada finished the Super Round in sole possession of fourth place with a 5-3 record, and will face Venezuela (6-2) in the bronze medal game at 11:30am EST Saturday.

The United States (4-4) will play the Dominican Republic (4-4) in the fifth-place game at 9:00am EST, while the gold medal game will be played between Argentina (6-2) and Mexico (6-2) at 2:00pm EST.
