Monteria, Colombia - The Quick Story:
Team Canada finished the preliminary round with a 2-1 record after an 8-1 win over Peru at the 2026 WBSC Americas Pan American Softball Championship on Sunday. The red and white finished second place in Pool B and will carry a 1-1 record into the Super Round that begins on Tuesday.
Key Moments:
Canada opened the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly by Justin Laskowski and a fielder’s choice by Max Major, followed by two more in the second following back-to-back homeruns by Denny Benson and Derek Hyde. In the fourth, Benson drove in a run with a single, with a run scoring on a wild pitch and another on a sacrifice fly by Dallas Kipfer. After Peru scored one run in the top of the fifth, Canada loaded the bases and scored on a wild pitch to end the game on the run rule.
Notes:
- Denny Benson led Canada at the plate by going 2-for-2 with a homerun and two runs batted in. Derek Hyde added a solo home run.
- Nick White, Ryan Bicknell and Mitch McKay each contributed with a single.
- Jordan Hudson earned the five-inning win in the pitching circle, allowing a run on only one hit and struck out six batters.
Canada (1-1) will open its Super Round schedule against the Dominican Republic (1-1) at 11:00am EST Tuesday.
