Canada Falls to Argentina, Moves to Placement Round at Men’s Softball World Cup

Prince Albert, Sask. - The Quick Story:

Team Canada dropped its final Opening Round game at the 2025 WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup, falling 7–3 to Argentina. Despite a strong push in the middle innings, Canada couldn’t contain Argentina’s late offensive surge and will now move to the Placement Round, facing the Dominican Republic next.

Key Moment:

With Canada down 3-1 heading into the fifth, Nick White would reach base on a throwing error followed by a Mathieu Roy home run tying the game at 3-3. Unfortunately, that would not be enough as Argentina would score a combined four runs in the sixth and seventh off an RBI single three-run home run.

Notes:

  • Mathieu Roy led the way offensively with a two-run home run in the fifth and added a single, finishing 2-for-4.
  • Blake Hunter went 1-for-3 and scored once.
  • Bryan Abrey and Nicholas White each reached base once and contributed to the middle of the order production.

In the Circle:

  • Ty Sebastian started for Canada and threw 5.0 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits while striking out 2.
  • Sean Cleary took over in the sixth and seventh, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and striking out 2.
  • Justin Schofield would close, allowing 1 hit and striking out 1.

Box Score: Argentina 7 vs. Canada 3

Canada now heads into the Placement Round and will face the Dominican Republic today (July 11) at 5:30 pm CST / 7:30 pm EDT
