Guatemala City, Guatemala - Team Canada took on Team WBSC on Wednesday, November 16 in the second game of a doubleheader at the 2022 WBSC Women’s Pan American Championship, winning 9-0.

Canada was once again the visiting team for the final game of round robin play.  It didn’t take them long to get on the scoreboard as Larissa Franklin (Maple Ridge, B.C.) lead off the game with a single, followed by a Kelsey Harshman (Delta, B.C.) walk. Franklin was brought home when Kianna Jones (Surrey, B.C.) singled to left field to open the scoring.  Janet Leung (Mississauga, Ont.) continued her hot day at the plate as she recorded another two-run scoring single to push the Canada lead to 3-0. A Grace Messmer (Cloverdale, B.C.) run-scoring single and a Kelsey Lalor (Red Deer, Alta.) sacrifice fly put two more runs on the board for Canada.

Jorde Chartrand (Weyburn, Sask.) got the start for Canada. She needed only five pitches to retire the side in order in the first inning.

In the top of the second, Canada extended the lead to 7-0 when Kelsey Harshman lead off with a double to the wall.  After a walk to Alysen Febrey (Peachtree City, GA.), Janet Leung collected her third-running scoring single of the game with a single to left field. The second run for came via an RBI ground out off the bat of Emma Entzminger (Victoria, B.C.).

Over the next two innings, Chartrand scattered two singles but shut down any momentum for the home squad recording six outs on 26 pitches.

Canada added one more run in both the top of the fourth and fifth inning. The lone run-scoring triple came when Larissa Franklin launched a solo home run over the fence in center field, after she was robbed of a home run earlier in the game.

Ruby Anderson (Victoria, B.C.) came on to pitch the final two innings for Canada. She gave up no hits and recorded three strikeouts in her outing.

Canada finishes the round robin in second place and will play the USA Thursday, November 17 at 12:45pm CST. A livestream feed will be available throughout the tournament on Softball Canada’s Facebook page and the WBSC Americas YouTube page
