Join Heather as she provides examples from her own developmental pathway regarding the lessons she has learned on her path from athlete to National Team coach. She'll share the keys to coaching success and share how to build a successful program.

7:05pm - 8:20pm SESSION #2A - BLUEPRINT FOR AN ELITE HITTER

During this session, Jeff will walk you through the minds of the games greats hitter (Mullaley, Shailes, Gonzalez and more). You will learn what these great hitters do to prepare for a full season of international play.  Jeff will outline an eight (8) month seasonal plan covering prep work, video analysis of common faults & fixes, situational hitting, hitting with a plan, information collection, picking pitchers and much more.

9:00am - 10:00am SESSION #4B - CANPITCH DRILLS AND FIXING COMMON TECHNICAL ERRORS IN BEGINNER YOUTH PITCHERS

In this session Softball BC's Master Pitching Instructors Kaila Holtz and Jackie Desilets will review the basic backwards chaining drill series of the CANpitch Program. Key coaching points will be highlighted. An informal discussion reviewing common technical errors seen in beginner youth pitchers will follow with video examples and troubleshooting suggestions.

10:00am - 11:00am SESSION #5B - RESILIENCY, GRIT & MENTAL TOUGHNESS

When it comes to experiencing adversity, there are several terms that tend to get used interchangeably: mental toughness, grit and resilience. Come and learn from Dr. Toogood what the differences are between these qualities, why they are important to develop in your players and practical examples of how you can train these qualities in practice and game settings. You will also learn how to monitor the development of these qualities over the course of your season and what your role is in that development.

1:30pm - 2:30pm SESSION #7B - PUTTING THE PUZZLE PIECES TOGETHER TO BUILD A GREAT OUTFIELDER

You will learn how to train like a pro in the outfield. Jeff will walk through the basics at the start but offer different drills with each aspect along the way including advanced training and the mind set that goes along with patrolling the grass. Communication, formations, information collecting, & game management will be the centre of the discussion in the second half of this session.

2:30pm - 3:30pm SESSION #8B - COACHING FEMALE ATHLETES

Successfully coaching female athletes requires a set of skills that often are different from those traditionally used to coach male athletes. Learn from Cindy how to motivate, communicate with, and empower your female athletes.

3:45pm - 4:45pm SESSION #9B - HITTING FROM THE GROUND UP

We will get into my theory of hitting the mechanics, the approach, we will touch on the mental aspect of hitting along with goal setting.  Picking pitchers and the spins on the ball will be the hot topic. In this session we will walk through a full hitting practice as well as discuss various drills.

4:45pm - 5:45pm SESSION #10B - WHAT LEARNING RESEARCH TELLS US ABOUT PRACTICE PLANNING

Cindy will highlight what new research is telling us about practice planning, learning and making practice fun! Concepts like Block Practice and Random practice will be discussed for all skills including pitching.

7:00pm - 8:30pm MENTORING SESSIONS

Round #1 (30 mins): Each table will be assigned a topic, a facilitator for that topic and a recorder to take notes. Each table will be numbered. Coaches will pick the table/topic they are interested in for Round #1. Facilitator at each table will lead discussions (ask questions, provide info, engage coaches at table) regarding the topic for 30 minutes. A recorder will take notes regarding the discussions/answers and these notes will be shared after the event.
Round #2 (30 mins):
Coaches select another topic and move to that table to discuss that topic for another 30 minutes.

 
8:30pm - 10:00pm COACHES SOCIAL EVENT AND TRADE SHOW

Softball Summit participants are invited to stay and socialize with other participants over a drink and snacks as they visit the tables of our Tradeshow Exhibitors. We will be drawing for various prizes and some exhibitors will be offering Show Specials available to only those in attendance.
