The 2023 Canadian Championships are fast approaching, with nine different cities playing host to the crowning of this year’s Canadian Champions. Throughout the next six months, we will be highlighting these host cities and all they have to offer when August comes around.

The third and fourth events on the list are the 2023 U23 Men’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships from August 2-6, and the 2023 U17 Girl’s Canadian Fast Pitch Championships from August 9-13, at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex in Saskatoon, Sask. The host organization, Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association, is celebrating its 63rd year of operation and these Canadian Championships will be the 27th and 28th Canadian Championships hosted in Saskatoon.

The host team berth will be decided at the Softball Saskatchewan U17 Girl’s Provincial Championships with four Saskatoon U17AA team training hard all winter, vying for the spot as the host team at the U17 Girl’s Canadian Championships.

The Delisle Pride will be the host team for the U23 Men’s Canadian Championships and will be looking to win a Canadian title on home soil.

“The Saskatoon Amateur Softball Association is very excited to host the U17 Girl’s Softball Canada Canadian Championships and the U23 Men’s Canadian Championships,” stated Chairperson, Bryan Kosteroski. “Saskatoon is rich in softball and expectations are high to welcome over 800 coaches, athletes & officials to the Canadian Championship.”

Both events will be played at Bob Van Impe Stadium, Joe Gallagher Field, and Glen Reeve Fields – a total of eight diamonds within the Gordie Howe Sports Complex.

With a population of 337,000, Saskatoon is known as the sunniest place to live in Canada. When you’re not at any of the eight diamonds, try dining at one of Saskatoon’s diverse culinary scenes owned by Dale MacKay, winner of the first season of “Top Chef Canada”. Keep an eye out for Ayden Kitchen & Bar and Hearth!

Continuing the topic of food, Saskatchewan is also known for its love for pierogies. When the games are done for the day, be sure to head to Baba’s Homestyle Pierogies to give your tastebuds a whirl.

There are also some great outdoor places that allow you to explore Saskatoon’s great hiking trails and paths. For more information on things to do and see, click here.

“We are looking forward to the best players in Canada within the U17 Girls and U23 Men’s categories to showcase their softball skills,” said Kosteroski.
